FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SMX® RTOS Now Available for Renesas RZ/A1 ARM® Cortex®-A9 Processors

Costa Mesa, California, March 25, 2015 — Micro Digital, Inc. is pleased to offer SMX® RTOS support for the RZ/A1 group of ARM® Cortex®-A9 microprocessors (MPUs) from Renesas. This includes immediate availability of the smx real-time multitasking kernel, smxWiFi 802.11a/b/g/i/n wireless stack, smxNS TCP/IP stack, smxNS6 dual IPv4/IPv6 TCP/IP stack, smxUSBH USB host stack, smxUSBD USB device stack, and smxFS FAT file system.

Based on the ARM Cortex-A9 core, the Renesas RZ/A1 group of MPUs features integrated display and audio peripheral functions, an industry-leading 10MB on‑chip SRAM, 1000 Dhrystone MIPS (DMIPS) performance, and a 128‑bit wide internal switch fabric to maximize processing bandwidth. The RZ/A1 MPU offers a rich set of peripherals, including Ethernet MAC, USB host and device controllers, MMC/SD card controller, LCD controller, and 2D graphics engine. This offers designers a strong combination of high performance, ease of use, and access to the ARM ecosystem for embedded human-machine interface (HMI)-based applications. The RZ/A1 MPU’s large on-chip SRAM, which can be used for data buffering or code execution, plus its ability to execute from inexpensive QSPI flash contribute to streamlined board design, reduced BOM cost, and lower power consumption.

SMX supports the Renesas Starter Kit+ for RZ/A1H (RSK) board with IAR Embedded Workbench for ARM (EWARM). smxAware extends the debugger to display graphical and textual diagnostic information including event timelines, profiling, and stack and memory usage. Recently added is a memory map overview graph that shows memory organization with named objects that can be zoomed to show individual bytes. It also displays file system, networking, and USB information. A free SMX RTOS evaluation kit for the RZ/A1H RSK board is available to download at www.smxrtos.com/eval

“Micro Digital is excited to partner with Renesas and add SMX RTOS support to their RZ/A1 group of ARM processors,” said David Moore, director of development at Micro Digital. “SMX is a modular RTOS comprised of an industry-leading multitasking kernel with many unique features and the broadest array of middleware modules among royalty-free RTOSes. Our rich RTOS kernel with superior debug tools and WiFi and other middleware stacks should be especially pleasing to Renesas developers.”

“Renesas looks forward to continued successful collaboration with Micro Digital to create reliable solutions that help customers working with our RZ/A1 MPUs to move quickly and easily from concept to market — two key success factors for emerging application markets,” said Semir Haddad, Marketing Director, General Purpose Microcontroller and Microprocessor Products. “The SMX RTOS complements the RZ/A1 MPU and extends our product and solution leadership.”

Availability and Licensing

SMX for RZ/A1 ARM processors is available immediately and includes full source code, 90 days of technical support, and no per-seat charges. All of Micro Digital’s software is licensed royalty-free with a 30-day money-back guarantee. Evaluation kits are available, at no charge, for qualified evaluators from www.smxrtos.com/eval.
