Real Mode EXE Bootloader
The Real Mode EXE Bootloader is capable of loading and executing a real mode .exe from boot, on a PC without DOS present. It relies only on BIOS services. This saves the cost of DOS royalties and frees additional memory for the application. Virtually all of the RAM below 1MB is available to the application, since the space occupied by the loader becomes available once the load has completed.
A utility is provided to patch the standard DOS 5 boot sector so that it loads the EXE loader, LOAD.SYS. LOAD.SYS then loads the application from disk using BIOS file i/o. In this manner, the system can be started from a floppy disk, hard disk, or any other disk accessible by int 13h services. Full source code is provided, to allow the user to tailor the bootloader to his needs.
The Real Mode EXE Bootloader is compatible with all Micro Digital products. If your application requires DOS services (e.g. int 21h), we suggest you also purchase unDOS, which emulates the most common DOS calls.
